Innovative Teacher Mini Grant Available for 2016

The Turning Foundation is announcing a new round of Innovative Teacher Mini-Grants for 2016. The foundation is seeking applications from PK-12 classroom teachers in a four county area (Ashtabula, Columbiana, Trumbull and Mahoning Counties) targeting innovative and creative practices focused on improving student outcomes. Teachers, either as individuals (up to $2,000) or teams (up to $5,000) will be given the opportunity to apply for up to $50,000 in total available funding this year.

The Turning Foundation has announced award winners for the 2015 round of Innovative Teacher Mini Grants. Cash awards of up to $2,000 were available for creative and innovative classroom projects. Applicants we required to align their projects with one of the four major goal areas of focus for the Eastern Ohio Education Partnership. The grant competition also included additional support this year from The Raymond John Wean Foundation. A total of 27 applications were submitted requesting $50,606 in funding. The eleven grant winners will receive a total of $20,104 in cash awards that will impact a total of 2,109 students in PK-12 classrooms during the rest of the 2015-16 school year.

Cash awards of up to $1,500 were available for creative and innovative classroom projects that also included collaboration with other teachers and/or community members. This was the first year in this annual grant cycle that applicants aligned their projects with the four major goal areas of focus for the Eastern Ohio Education Partnership. The grant competition also included support this year from The Raymond John Wean Foundation. The nine grant winners will receive a total of $12,777 in cash awards that will impact a total of 1642 students in PK-12 classrooms during the rest of the 2014-15 school year.

Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee is a program to identify students behind in reading from kindergarten through third grade. Schools will provide help and support to make sure students are on track for reading success by the end of third grade.

The funding of public elementary and secondary education in Ohio is a joint effort between the state and local school districts. 

Public school districts use a combination of state funds, local sources such as property taxes (and in some cases income taxes) and federal funds.
